FAQ — Johnson Brothers Jewelry & Loan | Mansfield, OH

Question 1

How does pawning work?

Accepted Answer

Pawning is a short-term, collateral-based loan. You bring in an item of value — jewelry, electronics, tools, coins, or more — and we assess it on the spot. We offer you a loan amount based on its resale value. You keep the loan ticket, pay back the principal plus a small interest fee within the agreed term, and your item is returned to you. If you choose not to redeem it, the loan simply expires and we keep the item — there's no credit impact and no collections.

Question 2

How long is a pawn loan term?

Accepted Answer

Our standard pawn loan term is 120 days. We can discuss extensions if you need more time — just come in or call us before your ticket expires.

Question 3

What interest rate do you charge on pawn loans?

Accepted Answer

Our rates are set in accordance with Ohio state law and are disclosed clearly on your pawn ticket before you agree to anything. We believe in full transparency — no surprises.

Question 4

Do I need ID to pawn an item?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Ohio law requires a valid, government-issued photo ID (driver's license, state ID, or passport) for all pawn transactions. This protects both you and us.

Question 5

What items can I pawn?

Accepted Answer

We accept a wide range of items including gold, silver, and diamond jewelry; electronics ( laptops, tablets, gaming consoles); power tools and hand tools; musical instruments; coins and collectibles; and firearms (with proper documentation). If you're unsure whether we'll take something, call us at 419-522-7296 or just bring it in.

Question 6

What's the difference between selling and pawning?

Accepted Answer

When you sell, the transaction is final — you receive cash and we take ownership of the item. When you pawn, you're taking a loan against the item and have the option to buy it back. Selling typically yields a higher immediate payout since there's no loan to service.

Question 7

Do you buy gold and silver?

Accepted Answer

Yes — gold, silver, and platinum in any form: jewelry, coins, bullion, flatware, dental gold, and more. We weigh and test everything in front of you and offer a fair market price based on current spot prices.

Question 8

Do you buy diamonds and fine jewelry?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. We evaluate diamonds and fine jewelry based on the 4 Cs (cut, color, clarity, carat) as well as current market demand. Bring any certificates or appraisals you have — they help us make the best offer.

Question 9

Do you buy electronics?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We buy laptops, tablets, gaming consoles, and other electronics in working condition. Items must be factory reset and free of activation locks (iCloud lock, Google FRP, etc.) to be eligible.

Question 10

How do I get paid when I sell?

Accepted Answer

We pay cash on the spot for all purchases. No waiting, no checks, no delays.

Question 11

Can I buy items online?

Accepted Answer

Yes — most of our inventory is available through our online shop. Add items to your cart and check out securely through GoDaddy Payments. Firearms and certain regulated items are in-store only and cannot be purchased online.

Question 12

Do you offer shipping?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we ship most items. Shipping options and costs are calculated at checkout. Firearms cannot be shipped and must be transferred through a licensed FFL dealer — call us at 419-522-7296 to discuss firearm purchases.

Question 13

Can I pick up my order in store?

Accepted Answer

Yes. If you prefer to pick up your purchase, select local pickup at checkout or call us to arrange it. We're located at 30 S. Park St., Mansfield, OH 44902.

Question 14

What is your return policy?

Accepted Answer

All sales are final. We describe every item accurately and encourage you to ask questions before purchasing. If an item arrives significantly not as described, contact us within 3 days of receipt and we'll make it right.

Question 15

How do I know items are authentic?

Accepted Answer

We test and authenticate every item we buy before putting it up for sale. Gold and silver are tested for purity, diamonds are evaluated with professional tools, and electronics are tested for function. We stand behind what we sell.
